Vision for San Leandro
San Leandro is a dynamic, diverse city with a mix of small and large businesses and quality schools. The changing demographics in the city include age, ethnicity and economic variations among its citizens. These present challenges requiring leadership and vision, a balancing act between the needs of people, the environment and the business community. These challenges are also a result of the state’s neglect of cities, and, with my contacts and experience in Sacramento, I feel that I am uniquely qualified to help address some of these problems.
My priorities are fair and balanced budgets, smart growth, safe neighborhoods and maintaining the small town atmosphere which is one of San Leandro’s most attractive features. I believe that we need to look ahead to long-range solutions, such as coping with economic recession, reducing our impact on the environment, and providing reasonable housing for our residents. Public safety needs attention, and I support enlarging our police force. Schools are severely strained by budget cuts, but I believe that there are ways the city can help to reduce that strain. I believe that we need housing that is near transportation corridors and commercial areas. I would like to see neighborhoods that are friendly areas where families can walk and children can play.
Most important, I have learned the value of compromise and of different people with varying ideas and concerns working together to achieve a common goal. I have raised my family here and worked on political issues and environmental and social programs to improve our way of life. I have developed relationships with citizens, officials and business leaders. I love San Leandro and am willing to work with you to make ours a "city of the future."
